The project comprises the design of a robust, resilient and engaging environment for the redevelopment of the PEGS Middle Girls School which comprises two buildings framing two large courtyard spaces with an entry plaza connecting to the existing outdoor spaces.

Working closely with the architects McBride Charles Ryan, the landscape draws on Mandelbrot set and boolean geometry which has generated the architectural form, as well as the philosophical index of the mediaeval philosopher and scientific pioneer Robert Grosseteste.

With close attention to: entrance treatments, the primary courtyards and other breakout spaces; overall program flexibility; circulation including new path and road network; navigation of slopes; universal access; care of existing significant trees; as well as consideration of rain water harvesting and storage; the new landscape provides the school with an adaptive ground plane which invites a variety of spatial experiences and range of opportunities for gatherings, from the intimate to the massed school festive event.
